Sreemangal tea auction: The `quality` of tea has increased
The 23rd tea auction of the 2023 fiscal year and the last tea production season was held at the country's second international tea auction center at Sreemangal in Moulvibazar. At the auction, the highest price was sold for tea leaves from Chittagong's Khaiachhara garden, whose market price was Tk 1,000 per kg.
The auction was held on Wednesday (March 15) from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm at the temporary office of the tea auction center in the hall of the Zilla Parishad Auditorium.
About 50 buyers participated in the auction from 5 brokers houses in Moulvibazar and 4 in Chittagong. More than 3 lakh 82 thousand 852 kg of tea leaves were auctioned. The estimated market value of which is above 7 crore 49 lakh taka.
Earlier, in the last 22nd tea auction, 68 thousand 683.80 kg of tea leaves were auctioned, but 19 thousand 332.20 kg were sold. The price of which is 20 lakh 63 thousand 712 decimal 35 taka. The average selling price was Tk 106.75 per kg.
Helal Ahmed, managing director of Sreemangal Tea Brokers Limited said that brokers from Sreemangal and Chittagong participated in the 23rd tea auction today. Sreemangal and Chittagong together have more than 3 lakh tea operings. Today (Wednesday) there are several tea openings, among them Dilkusha tea garden tea is sold at Tk 800 per kg. The quality of tea is increasing now.
He also said that if such quality can be maintained, the tea market will increase.
