Rejected marriage proposal : man arrested for throwing acid

A young man named Lal Chan Bauri (25) threw acid on the face of a young woman because she did not agree to marry him in Rajnagar of Moulvibazar district. Lal Chan Bauri has been arrested by the Rajnagar Police Station.

The incident took place at Chandabhag tea garden of Uttarbhag union of the upazila around 9:30 pm on Sunday (May 14). Later on Monday (May 15) afternoon raids were conducted at Chandbhag tea garden and he was arrested.

Accused Lal Chan Bauri (25) is the son of deceased Anil Bauri of Chandabhag Tea Garden in Uttarbhag Union.

In this incident, the young woman's brother Ratan Kumar Bauri has filed a case at Rajnagar police station accusing Lalchan Bauri as the plaintiff.

According to the statement of the case, Lal Chan Bauri of Chandbhag tea garden used to like Bhagyarani Bauri (18) of the same tea garden and used to harass her on the streets. A few days ago, Lal Chan Bauri proposed marriage to the victim's family. But Lal Chan Bauri was angry with the girl for not responding to this marriage proposal.

As a result, on Sunday (May 14) at 9:30 p.m., when the victim Bhagyarani Bauri was cooking, the accused Lalchan Bauri filled a syringe with acid and threw it on Bhagyarani through a hole in the tin fence of the house. Bhagyarani's right eye and cheek were burnt.

Rajnagar police station officer-in-charge Vinay Bhushan Roy said that currently the victim Bhagyarani Bauri is under treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Police said that the arrested accused Lal Chan Bauri initially accepted the responsibility of throwing acid.
