SCC election: 371 candidates bought nominations paper
Sylhet City Corporation election will be held on June 21 through EVM. The political arena of Sylhet has already become active around the elections. Mayor Arif and the new Awami supported candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury are at the center of all discussions about the SCC elections, but there are 369 other people in the race to buy nominations.
So far 5 people have collected nomination forms for the post of Mayor to participate in Sisik elections. Sylhet regional election office said that 366 women and men bought nominations for the councilor post.
Sylhet Regional Election Office Media Cell (City Election) Officer Syed Kamal Hossain told the media that a total of 371 people have purchased nomination forms for the post of Mayor and Councilor till 4 pm on Wednesday (May 10). Among them, 5 in the post of mayor and 366 in the post of councilor. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday, no one collected new nomination forms for the post of mayor.
Two of the mayoral candidates bought nominations as parties and three as independents. Five people nominated for the post of mayor are - Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury (boat), Hafiz Maulana Mahmudul Hasan (hand fan), Mohammad Abdul Hanif alias Kutu (independent), Mohammad Abdul Mannan Khan (independent) and Samshun Noor Talukdar.
Out of 366 councillors, 78 in 14 reserved wards (female councillors) and 288 in 42 general wards (male councillors) bought nomination forms.
Syed Kamal Hossain also said - among the reserved (women councillors) so far, 2 people in Ward No. 1, 4 people in Ward No. 3, 6 people in Ward No. 4, 7 people in Ward No. 5, 4 people in Ward No. 6, 3 people in Ward No. 7, 1 in Ward No. 7. John, 4 people in Ward No. 8, 4 people in Ward No. 9, 8 people in Ward No. 10, 9 people in Ward No. 12, 9 people in Ward No. 12, 12 people in Ward No. 13 and 5 people in Ward No. 14 bought the nomination form.
And among general (male councillors) so far 3 people in Ward No. 1, 2 people in Ward No. 2, 3 people in Ward No. 3, 2 people in Ward No. 4, 6 people in Ward No. 5, 4 people in Ward No. 6, 3 people in Ward No. 8, 10 in Ward No. 8. John, 6 people in Ward No. 9, 6 people in Ward No. 10, 5 people in Ward No. 11, 2 people in Ward No. 12 and 6 people in Ward No. 13, 2 people in Ward No. 15, 7 people in Ward No. 16, 5 people in Ward No. 17, 2 people in Ward No. 18 7 people, 3 people in Ward No. 19, 2 people in Ward No. 20, 4 people in Ward No. 21, 9 people in Ward No. 22, 3 people in Ward No. 23, 7 people in Ward No. 24, 4 people in Ward No. 26, 3 people in Ward No. 27, 9 people in Ward No. , 9 people in Ward No. 28, 15 people in Ward No. 30, 18 people in Ward No. 31, 9 people in Ward No. 32, 9 people in Ward No. 33, 15 people in Ward No. 34, 18 people in Ward No. 35, 4 people in Ward No. 36, 14 people in Ward No. 37 , 10 people in Ward No. 38, 8 people in Ward No. 39, 7 people in Ward No. 40, 7 people in Ward No. 41 and 12 people in Ward No. 42.
Note that Sylhet City Corporation election will be held on EVM on 21st June. Last date for submission of nomination papers is May 23. Nomination papers will be selected on May 25. And the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 1.
