Truck-pickup collision in Sylhet: At least 15 k i l le d

The death toll has risen to 15 in a collision between a sand truck and a pickup carrying laborers in Sylhet's South Surma. At least 10 others were injured in this incident.

The accident took place on Wednesday (June 7) around 5:30 am in Qutubpur area of Nazirbazar area of South Surma on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway.

Confirming the information about the accident, Deputy Director of Sylhet Office of Fire Service Moniruzzaman said that the injured were rescued and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The names of 9 victims have been known. They are Harish Mia (50), Sourav (25), Sadhu Mia (40), Taif Noor (45), Sagar (18), Rashid Mia (40), Dulal Mia (55), Badsha Mia (55) of Bhatipara village of Sunamganj's Dirai Upazila. 45) and Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Wahid Ali (40).

According to police, fire service and local sources, around 30 construction workers were going to Goalabazar in Osmaninagar upazila of the district in a pickup that left Sylhet. At around 5:30 in the morning, a pick-up carrying laborers collided with a Sylhet-bound cargo truck leaving Munshiganj at Qutubpur in Nazirbazar area of South Surma.

On receiving the information, several units of South Surma Thana Police and fire service stations of Sylhet and Osmaninagar reached the spot with the help of locals and rescued the injured and sent them to Osmani Hospital.
