Cylinder explosion in Sylhet: Mother, daughter burnt inside house

Two people, a mother, and a daughter, were burnt to death in a cylinder explosion at Jaflong Union in Sylhet. Later, the the bodies of mother and daughter were recovered inside their house.

The accident took place at around 12 am on Sunday (August 21) at Rasulpur village in East Jaflong union no. 3 of Gowainghat upazila bordering Sylhet. The deceased are – Jasmine Akhter and her daughter Sumaiya Akhter. Jasmin is the wife of Yakub Mia of the village.

Fire service sources say that two bodies were recovered from the scene of the fire, causing a loss of at least Tk 10.

According to locals, Yakub Mia’s shop and house are located in the same place. At night, Yakub Mia, his mother, wife-two sons Zubair and Junaid and daughter Sumaiya were sleeping. Their house caught fire after a sudden loud noise around 12:30 am on Sunday. Locals immediately rescued Yakub, his mother and two sons in a burnt condition and took them to the nearby Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex. From there, he was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. After receiving the information, the fire service and the policemen, with the help of the locals, brought the fire under control and recovered the bodies from the spot.

Meanwhile, Gowainghat UNO Tahmilur Rahman and police station OC KM Nazrul Islam visited the spot after receiving the news. Gowainghat police station OC KM Nazrul Islam said that the mother and daughter were burnt inside the house after the cylinder explosion. Four people were injured in this incident.
