Cruises start at Teknaf-Saint Martin

Shipping on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route has resumed after a day of closure due to inclement weather. Today Monday morning between 9:30 am and 10:00 am, three ships from Teknaf BIWTA Jetty left for Saint Martin with about 250 tourists. Later the ships reached St. Martin after 12:30 PM. In the afternoon, the tourists stranded in St. Martin will leave for Teknaf in the ships.

Vessels are allowed to sail as the weather is good. Stranded tourists can return to Teknaf in the afternoon.

Due to adverse weather conditions and Kalboishakhi, the movement of tourist ships on the Teknaf-Saint Martin waterway was announced on Sunday morning. About one and a half thousand tourists got stuck in St. Martin.

Shahinur Rahman, an official of a private bank in Dhaka who was stuck in St. Martin, said on the phone that he went on a trip to St. Martin with 18 family members. Although he was supposed to return yesterday, he did not return because the ship was stopped. In this situation, the resort authorities did not take one day's rent from them. The family members spent the time happily.

Local resident Murad Hasan barbecues seafood for tourists on St. Martin's North Beach. He said that his business has been good due to more tourists staying on the island. Last night he did a business of 36 thousand rupees. Abdur Rahim, a hotelier on the island of St. Martin, said that there were tourists in 32 rooms of their two resorts last night. No rent was charged from anyone.
