BCL to hold massive rally today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to give special directives to the young generation of the country ahead of the next general election, from a BCL rally today.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling party, is set to hold the country’s biggest-ever student rally at historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital this afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, will address the rally, to be organised to pay tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Raman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, as the chief guest.

BCL President Saddam Hussain will preside over the programme beginning at 3:00pm.

About 5 lakh BCL leaders and activists are expected to join the rally from across the country to give the BNP-Jamaat clique, external enemies of the country, war criminals, militants and terrorists an ultimatum to stop their conspiracies ahead of the general election.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the prime minister will give directives to the young generation in the present context.

He also said protests will be lodged from the BCL rally against the conspiracies of militants and communal forces against the country’s legal government and democracy.

Top BCL leaders said this will be a historic gathering as students from across the country will participate in the rally.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also give directives to the youths, they said.

“The anti-nation forces have chosen the path of conspiracy. They’ve started hatching conspiracies against the democratic practice in the country,”

BCL President Saddam Hussain told reporters at a briefing at Dhaka University on Thursday.

“Through this student rally, we want to send a message that we’ll remain strong imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation and the ideals of the Father of the Nation,” he said.

The BCL president said they are in favour of building Smart Bangladesh.

“We’ll hold this student rally to express love and deep feelings of all the students of this country towards Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

“We don’t believe in the politics of violence. The students and the representatives of the young generation will express their no-confidence in anti-liberation forces,” Saddam said.
