Journalist Shamsuzzaman sent to Kashimpur jail
Prothom Alo Savar's staff correspondent Shamsuzzaman has been sent from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur. He was taken to Gazipur from Dhaka Central Jail at around 10:30 am on Friday.
Dhaka Central Jail Deputy District Aminul Islam confirmed this information. He said that journalist Shamsuzzaman was transferred to Kashimpur jail as per instructions of higher authorities.
Shamsuzzaman was produced in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court of Dhaka at around 10:30 am on Thursday, 30 hours after being picked up from Savar's house by the CID. The police of Ramna police station applied to the court to detain him in jail. On the other hand, his lawyers applied for bail on behalf of Shamsuzzaman. The hearing of that application began at two o'clock in the afternoon. Then Shamsuzzaman was taken from the jail to the accused in the court. After the hearing, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of CMM Court of Dhaka rejected the bail application and ordered him to be sent to jail. Then he was taken to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj in a prison van around 3:30 PM.
No trace of Shamsuzzaman could be found after he was picked up from Savar's house at around four in the morning last Wednesday by the CID. The first case under the Digital Security Act was filed against him at Tejgaon police station in the capital two and a quarter hours before the removal. The plaintiff in this case is Syed Md. general secretary of Ward No. 11 of Dhaka Metropolitan North of Jubo League. Golam Kibria. Although the matter of the case came to light on Wednesday afternoon. However, he was sent to jail yesterday in another new case filed under the Digital Security Act at Ramna police station. This case took place 19 hours after he was picked up last Wednesday midnight.
Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman has also been accused in the case in which Shamsuzzaman has been sent to jail. The plaintiff in this case is High Court lawyer Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek).

Various human rights, journalists, political and civic organizations and prominent individuals have demanded the withdrawal of the case against the editor of Prothom Alo and the release of the arrested journalist Shamsuzzaman. Various countries and international organizations have also expressed concern over the incident.
