2.25 billion dollar loan agreement with the World Bank

The World Bank will provide 2.25 billion dollar loan assistance to Bangladesh for the development of regional trade and connectivity, disaster preparedness and environmental management. For this purpose, Bangladesh and World Bank have signed an agreement to implement 5 projects.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and World Bank President David Malpass who were visiting the World Bank headquarters in Washington on Monday (01 May).

The projects are - Accelerating Transport and Train Eastern South Asia Program Page-1, a $753.45 million project to increase transport and train connectivity. This will help in enhancing regional trade and connectivity.

500 million dollar 'Resilience Infrastructure Building Project'. This is the first major investment project to implement Delta Plan 2100. This will help in disaster preparedness against inland flooding.

The third is the $500 million first Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Project. It will help the country in green and climate resilient development.

The fourth is the $250 million Sustainable Micro Enterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART) project. It will help transform the small scale industry sector into a more dynamic, less polluting, efficient and climate resilient growth sector.

The fifth and last is the $250 million Bangladesh Environmental Sustainability and Transformation project. The project will help strengthen environmental management and encourage private sector participation in green investment.
