Stalker arrested for kil-ling schoolgirl in Netrakona
Members of Detective Branch of Police today arrested the alleged killer of schoolgirl Mukti Rani Barman from Barhatta upazila of Netrakona.
Accused Kawser Mia, 18, was arrested from the upazila around 3:00pm, reports quoting Md Saidur Rahman, OC of Netrakona DB. During primary interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the killing of the 16-year-old girl, the OC said.
Meanwhile, locals organised protest programmes demanding justice for the death of Mukti. Students, parents, and teachers of the area joined the human chain and protest rally, our correspondent reports. Kawser stabbed Mukti to death yesterday. She was a class-X student at a high school, said police.
Quoting family members, Khokon Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Barhatta Police station, said Kawser Mia used to stalk Mukti on the way to school. She on multiple occasions had fended off his advances and Kawser threatened her with dire consequences. When the girl was returning home from school yesterday afternoon, Kawser and his cohorts waylaid her, the OC said.
At one stage, he started stabbing the girl, leaving her critically injured. Hearing Mukti's screams, locals rescued her and took her to Barhatta Upazila Health Complex that referred her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. She died on the way to the hospital around 5:00pm, said the OC.
