Mango export to Italy from Rajshahi begins today
People from all parts of the country wait for the mangoes of Rajshahi region during Madhumas Jaistha-Ashad-Shravan. Guti mangoes of Rajshahi will be marketed from today Thursday. The first shipment of Rajshahi mangoes is going to Italy on the first day of the season.
The mangoes will be sent from Dhaka to Italy on Thursday. As a preparation, these mangoes have been sent to Dhaka from Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday evening after completing the packaging work. Rajshahi's Bagha Upazila Agriculture Officer Shafiullah Sultan confirmed this information.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Shafiullah said that mangoes are being exported to Italy at the beginning of the season. Mangoes from Bagha will go to Italy. These are local varieties of Chosha or Desi Guti mangoes. First, 300 kg of mangoes will go through Adab International in Dhaka. They will send the mangoes to that country after completing the quarantine procedure.
Greater Rajshahi, Jessore, Kushtia, Dinajpur and Rangpur are famous for mangoes. Several hundred varieties of mangoes including Langra, Gopalbhog, Fazli, Himsagar, Mohanbhog, Golap Khas, Suryapuri, Misri Bhog, Ashwina are produced in these regions. A good portion of mangoes are exported abroad.
Shafiqul Islam Chana, the owner of Sadia Enterprises, a mango producer in Baghar, said, "We are selling it for export at the rate of Tk 100 per kg. This mango will be more expensive in the local market of Rajshahi and will go to Dhaka on Wednesday. Tomorrow the mangoes will go to Italy from Dhaka. It is a local mango of Guti variety. Agam mangoes of this variety are going for the first time.
Mozdar Hossain, Deputy Director of Rajshahi Agricultural Extension Department said that mangoes have been cultivated in 19 thousand 578 hectares of land in Rajshahi this year. Last year there were sugarcane plantations on 18 thousand 528 hectares of land. If the target is achieved, a total of 2 lakh 58 thousand 450 metric tons of mangoes will be produced in the district this year.
He said, the mangoes are desi Guti varieties of Chosha mangoes. They are good for export. Very tasty to eat. Hopefully, we can export more in the future. Later, more varieties of mangoes will be sent to different countries of the world. Mangoes are exported from Rajshahi to at least 7 countries of the world.
