Cases dismissed, Yunus have to pay Tk 12 crore tax
The High Court on Wednesday dismissed three separate applications filed by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus challenging the notice of National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Now, Dr Yunus have to pay Tk 12 crore to NBR as tax.
Earlier, he has paid 3 crore as tax, out of 15 crore, while filing an appeal in the trial court against the verdict.
An HC bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir pronounced the verdict. Attorney general A M Amin Uddin was at the court on behalf of the state, while lawyer Mostafizur Rahman Khan was present on behalf of the petitioner.
On May 23, the hearing on the three separate applications by Yunus was ended.
Muhammad Yunus filed the appeals with the Tax Appellate Tribunal challenging legality of three notices issued by NBR.
