RCC polls: Liton wins mayoral race with a huge margin
The Awami League-backed candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has won the mayoral race in the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) elections with a huge margin.
Liton bagged 1,60,290 votes, while his nearest candidate from Islami Andolan Bangladesh Murshid Alam got 13,483 votes, said RCC Returning Officer Delwar Hossain.
The mayoral candidate from the Jaker Party Latif Anwar bagged 11,713 votes, and Saiful Islam Swapan from the Jatiya Party got 10,272 votes, RO Delwar added.
There are 351,982 voters in the Rajshahi City Corporation election, with 171,167 male, 180,809 female, and six transgender voters.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal estimated that voter turnout at the Rajshahi city election was around 52-55 percent.
A total of four candidates contested for the mayoral post, 111 for councillor posts in 30 general words, and 46 for the post of 10 reserved seats for women councillors.
Electronic Voting Machines were used in all 155 centres of the RCC polls.
