3 sarees made from banana fibre yarn gifted to PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received three sarees made from banana fibre yarn gifted to her.Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parvin Tibriji handed over three sarees and two boxes of jewelry at the Prime Minister’s office.Prime Minister’s Assistant Press Secretary SM Imrul Kayes said this on Monday.
A weaver from Moulvibazar started to weave sarees using banana fiber yarn, the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Radhabati Debi, a Manipuri weaver from Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, took the initiative of this creative idea with the support of the Bandarban District Commissioner.
The saree, named Kalaboti Saree, was made entirely from banana fiber and took 15 days to weave. It features different color designs that evoke the atmosphere of Jamdani. Radhabati Debi has been weaving traditional Manipuri sarees for a long time and is currently training new saree artisans.
