Police vehicles, public buses torched; cops injured
Several vehicles of law enforcing agencies and passenger buses have been torched during anti-government movement by BNP.
Arson attack on vehicles took place at Shyamoli and Matuail of the capital on Saturday. Sources said police vans were set afire in Shyamoli area and three passenger buses in Matuail.
During the vandalism, agitators took out procession and shouted slogans in favour of the BNP.
According to sources, a bus of Welcome Paribahan, a motorcycle and a police pick-up van were torched near the Shishu Mela in Shyamoli.
Besides, passenger buses including those of Swadesh Paribahan and Tisha Coach were also torched in other places of the capital, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP Media Cell KN Niyoti Roy.
Sub-Inspector Nahid of Sutrapur Police Station came under attack of the BNP men while discharging professional duty at Dholaikhal. He received serious head injuries.
From morning, BNP and its allies took position at all entry points of the capital to implement their one-point movement to oust the government. Meanwhile, ruling Awami League also took to the street to, what they said, thwart the violence.
