Journalist Shamsuzzaman`s bail application
An application has been made for the bail of Prathom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman, who is detained in jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at Ramna Model Police Station in the capital.
The bail application was made in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Monday (April 3). A hearing will be held in this regard at noon.
Counsel for the accused Prashant Kumar Karmkar informed the matter.
Earlier, on March 30, Shamsuzzaman was brought to court and requested to be detained in jail by Abu Anshar, the investigating officer of the case and Inspector of Ramna Model Police Station. At this time, his lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for bail on behalf of the accused. On the other hand, the state opposed the bail. After hearing both the parties, the court denied him bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
On March 29, a lawyer named Abdul Moshiur Malek filed the case at the capital's Ramna police station as the plaintiff. In this case, the editor of Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman, the newspaper's own correspondent Shamsuzzaman Shams, an associate cameraman and unknown persons have been accused. In this case, Matiur Rahman got six weeks anticipatory bail from the High Court.
