Fire in Bongo Bazar : DSCC forms probe committee
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has formed an eight-member committee to investigate the cause of the fire in Bongo Bazar, prepare a list of victims and assess the amount of damage. The committee has been directed to submit its report within three days.
The committee has been formed by an office order signed by DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman on Tuesday (April 4).
Secretary Akramuzzaman said that the regional executive officer of DSCC region-1 has been convened by this committee. Chief Social Welfare and Slum Development Officer has been made Member Secretary.
The remaining members of the committee are - DSCC Ward No. 20 Councillor, Reserved Councilor (13. Ward No. 19 and 20), DSCC Chief Revenue Officer, Property Officer, Deputy Commissioner's Representative and Superintending Engineer (Pur) of Environment, Climate and Disaster Management Circle.
The fire service received information about the fire at 6:10 am on Tuesday. They reached the spot in no time. After about 6 and a half hours, the fire came under control.
5,000 traders from 6 nearby markets including Bongo Bazar were affected by the fire, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman.
Initially, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage was not known. No casualty has been reported in this incident so far.
