The country`s democracy is safe today under the leadership of PM

President Md. Abdul Hamid said, in the last 14 years, under the strong and strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved all the qualifications to be promoted from a less developed country to a developing country. Under his leadership, the country's democracy is safe and secure today. At present there is no opportunity for any other group or unconstitutional power to take state power except the representatives elected by the people.

The President said these things in a speech given to Parliament on the occasion of 50 years of National Parliament on Friday (April 7). Prime Minister and Leader of Parliament Sheikh Hasina, Leader of Opposition Begum Roshan Ershad and most of the parliamentarians were present at the time.

He said, 'The first rise of my politics was in the hands of Bangabandhu and the second rise in 1996 was in the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her initiative. I have reached this position today because of Bangabandhu's immense love and his foresight. I feel more proud to identify myself as a soldier of Bangabandhu's ideology and not as a president.'

The President said that if the Prime Minister did not give me the rank of Deputy Speaker that day, maybe my politics would have revolved around Kishoreganj.

He said, I met Bangabandhu in 1966. I was a student of Kishoreganj Gurudayal College. I became a follower of Bangabandhu's principles and ideals. Bangabandhu was sometimes met, sometimes he himself called. At that time, Bangabandhu was my only meditation, his principles, ideals and guidance were the most important for me to follow and emulate.

Abdul Hamid said, "Just because of me, Bangabandhu was the only role model for many youths of East Pakistan at that time, it is not possible for anyone who has once had Bangabandhu's hand on his back or the touch of his affection to forget Bangabandhu."

His second term as president will end on April 24. President Hamid has been elected Member of Parliament 8 times. He has also held the duties of Deputy Speaker and Speaker.

He said, Bangabandhu always gave equal importance to socio-economic development as well as the development of democracy. Therefore, in his March 7 speech, Bangabandhu talked about economic freedom along with political freedom.

The President said, "In independent Bangladesh, the first session of the Constituent Assembly began on April 10, 1972 at Sangsad Bhavan in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Our Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 4, 1972 and came into force on December 16, 1972. Making one of the best constitutions in the world within such a short period of independence is undoubtedly a matter of pride for any democratic country. Our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first to sign this constitution.

He said, 'I sign number 71. Under this constitution, the first national parliament election was held on March 7, 1973. Exactly one month after this, the first session of the first national parliament was held on April 7 of the same year. Today the 50th anniversary of the great National Parliament has been completed.

He recalled the speech given by the leader of the parliament, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the first session of the first parliament 50 years ago, congratulating the newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

President Hamid said, "On that day, Bangabandhu said that the members of Parliament will always cooperate with you in fulfilling your duties." I hope you will conduct your work impartially keeping in mind the tradition of parliamentary system. You will get help and support from us. You will take care that the dignity of this Parliament is protected, because the history we have created should not be marred in history.'

Bangabandhu said, 'We want to follow all the principles that are in the Parliamentary Convention of the world. May we at once adopt such a parliamentary system that the world may learn from us. There is no party or opinion here - I will see that every member can use the rights that he has. I hope you will also take care of that.

He said, 'You will get our full cooperation in this regard. We will try to follow the parliamentary tradition completely.
The President said that even if there was no opposition party in the Constituent Assembly, the session would have been lively. Argument and presentation of opinion was very interesting. Suranjit Sengupta, the only member of Constituent Assembly elected from NAP, always got the chance to speak in Parliament. Even though the speaker sometimes did not want to give him the mic, Bangabandhu used to say, 'Give him a chance, he must listen to the opposition first.'

Bangabandhu said in relation to the formation of a committee for the purpose of drafting the constitution, 'Not only that we will make a committee from our party members, but we will discuss with everyone regardless of the party, so that the people can be given a fair constitution according to their wishes, for this purpose, I will ask for everyone's opinion on this constitution. There will be human rights, which people can enjoy forever.'

Pointing out that Bangabandhu gave priority to party discipline along with parliamentary activities, the president said, on the first working day of the first session, Bangabandhu said, 'I want to remind honorable members of parliament one more thing that before bringing any proposal, discuss it in the party and then present it. If not, it will destroy the discipline of the party.

Abdul Hamid said, Bangabandhu used to keep abreast of the needs and complaints, joys and sorrows of the parliamentarians and did everything possible for them when necessary. Recalling Bangabandhu's manners and absolute tolerance in politics, he said, if someone spoke against Bangabandhu in Parliament, the speaker would often get embarrassed, but it was not Bangabandhu.

The President said that regardless of the differences in political ideologies, Bangabandhu used to speak with due respect to the leaders of the opposition parties. In fact, there is no substitute for politeness and absolute tolerance in politics.
