Mohammed Shahabuddin takes oath as 22nd president of Bangladesh
Mohammed Shahabuddin has taken oath as the as the 22nd president of Bangladesh on Monday. He succeeded Md Abdul Hamid, whose tenure ended on Sunday.
Shahabuddin took the presidential oath administered by Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the historic Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 11am in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members and hundreds of distinguished guests. Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain conducted the program. After the swearing-in ceremony, Mohammed Shahabuddin signed the oath documents of the office of the president.
Family members of the new president, including his wife Dr Rebecca Sultana and son Arshad Adnan Rony were present at the function. Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, members of parliament, the chief election commissioner, Supreme Court judges, political leaders, chiefs of the three military forces, diplomats, senior journalists, including editors, and high-ranking civil and military officials witnessed the event.
Earlier, the 73-year-old politician was elected as the 22nd president of Bangladesh on February 13.
