Fellowship in USA: Opportunities for young Bangladeshis

The Hubert H Humphrey Fellowship Program has been launched in America for foreign students interested in pursuing higher education. The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship is for 1 year in the 2024-25 academic year. Professionals working in Bangladeshi government and non-governmental organizations can also apply for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship.

According to the announcement of the American Embassy in Dhaka, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program is one of the Fulbright programs of the United States government. Through this, talented young and mid-level professionals will have the opportunity to pursue a one-year graduate-level education in the United States without a degree, develop leadership skills and increase their professional skills through work with American organizations. This program serves as a foundation for building a lasting and productive relationship with Americans and foreign professionals by introducing future leaders and policymakers to the American society, culture, and professional fields.

The Humphrey Program was established in 1978 to honor the memory and achievements of the late U.S. Senator and Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. Professional candidates working in the public or private sector who are committed to public service are selected through a competitive process for this fellowship.

Eligibility of the applicant

The applicant must be a Bangladeshi citizen and reside in Bangladesh during the application and selection process.

Cannot be a dual citizen (Bangladesh and US) or US permanent resident.

Must have valid passport with validity at the time of application.

Applicants must be young and mid-level leadership professionals with exemplary work in public service and potential for career advancement.

Anyone who has recently completed graduation from the university cannot apply.

As a full-time student must have a certificate of completion of at least four years of education from the university.

Must have a minimum of five years of full-time work experience in the relevant field after obtaining a university degree (before August 2023) and have an interest in the policy aspects of their education and work related field.

Only university teachers or academic researchers will not be considered for this fellowship. They must have experience in management responsibilities (exception will be considered if one is responsible for teaching English as a foreign language).

Applicants who have attended a US graduate school for one academic year or more within seven years prior to August 2023 will be ineligible for this fellowship.

He/she will not be eligible for this fellowship if he/she has experience of stay in USA for more than six months in five years before August 2023.

Must be proficient in both written and spoken English and have a TOEFL score of at least 525 (paper-based) or 71 (internet-based). Candidates whose TOEFL scores have expired are required to take the TOEFL test at the end of the selection process. (The American Center will only administer the TOEFL test for selected candidates. Highly promising candidates with low TOEFL scores may be nominated for Long-Term English Training (LTE).)

The applicant must demonstrate the experience, skills, and commitment required for the fellowship, as well as explain how he or she will benefit from the fellowship, which he or she has never had before and would not have had the opportunity to gain without participating in the Humphrey program.

After completing the fellowship, you have to come back to Bangladesh.
