Human chain demanding cancellation of Prothom Alo license in SUST

The students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have formed a human chain to demand the cancellation of the license of Prothom Alo newspaper and the arrest of its editor, Motiur Rahman.

All of them are known to be workers of the branch Chhatra League. Besides, a former general secretary of Prothom Alo Bandhu Sabha Shabiprabi branch was also seen.

On tuesday around 3:30 pm, they formed a human chain in front of the central library of the university under the banner of 'Student society united against taunts about yellow journalism, child exploitation and freedom'.

Anisur Rahman Anas, a student of the 2016-17 session of the Chhatra League activist and mathematics department, Kawsar Ahmed Sohag of the same year of the Bengali department, Sujan Vaishnab of the 2016-17 session of the public administration department and Lokman Hossain, a student of the 2018-19 session of the BMB department, spoke in the human band under the moderator of BCL worker Sajjad Hossain.

Chhatra League activists Fazlul Haque, Jewel Sarkar, Imamul Hasan Hriday, Nahid Hasan and general secretary of Prothom Alo Bandhu Sabha Shabi Prabi Branch 2020 Tanim Khandkar and many others of the current executive committee of Bandhu Sabha were present. The speakers in the human chain said that they are demanding the cancellation of Prothom Alo's license and the arrest of the editor of the newspaper on the charges of yellow journalism and attempts to fulfill political objectives under the guise of journalism, information and rumor terrorism, child exploitation and treasonous activities with inhumane motives such as taunting freedom.

The speakers also said, 'We are not against journalism. We are against disinformation. On the one hand, they are not tolerating so much development in Bangladesh; That is why they are spreading rumors and using journalism for personal gain.

They are constantly trying to destabilize the country by giving false and fabricated information. I demand maximum punishment against the journalist of Prothom Alo.
