High Court stays Cumilla Varsity student Iqbal`s expulsion order
The High Court on Monday stayed the expulsion order of Cumilla University to one of its student, also a journalist, for a news report on the vice chancellor. The court passed the order after hearing on a writ seeking direction to withdraw the expulsion order.
Mohammad Iqbal Monwar is a masters student at the English department. He is also a reporter of Bangla daily Jaijaidin. On August 13, Barrister Shihab Uddin filed the writ with the HC. A legal notice has been served to eight persons, including the university vice-chancellor, on August 9 seeking withdrawal of Iqbal's expulsion order.
In the expulsion order, Amirul Haque Chowdhury, acting registrar of the university, said Monwar was suspended for 'violating university discipline'. On July 31, a report on the VC was published in daily Jaijaidin. Later on August 2, the university administration temporarily expelled Iqbal Monwar.
