All universities agree on a single admission test: Dr. Dipu Moni
Education Minister Dipu Moni has said that no university has any objection to implementing a single admission test for student admission. He said that a high-level committee will be constituted soon to outline the admissions. We will try to introduce single admission from academic year 2024.
He gave this information at the end of the meeting on Monday (April 3) to take a single exam for admission in all the public universities of the country and to determine what to do about the formation of the National Testing Authority or NTA.
The Education Minister said that talks are going on about how to conduct an integrated admission test in all universities from next year. There will be an integrated exam, but not once a year, maybe twice a year.
He said that there is a matter to be decided on how this integrated examination will be done, in what manner. We will be the same as it is in developed countries all over the world. We have nothing to innovate. This process is going well in different countries. After reviewing them, the admission test will be conducted in a manner which is most convenient for us, which will not involve any harassment. We have started discussing that process.
Dr. Dipu Moni said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) will form a committee to conduct the NTA. The committee will analyze everything and proceed with the university admission through an admission test.
UGC Chairman Kazi Shahidullah said that if the admission test is held simultaneously in all universities, teaching can be started in a short period of time. Successful completion of single admission test will gain acceptance to all. He hoped that the success of the Single Admission Test would be a huge achievement in higher education.
A vice-chancellor present in the meeting said that this committee will be formed under the leadership of a member of UGC. Representatives of major universities of the country and officials of the Ministry of Education and related parties will be kept in the committee. UGC has been asked to prepare a format of the committee and submit it to the Ministry of Education. He also said that the committee will start official work after the approval of the ministry.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah presided over the meeting, member of the commission Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir, Professor Dr. Biswajit Chand and Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Additional Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department. Abu Yusuf Mia and UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman was present.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. ASM Maqsud Kamal, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr. Lutful Hasan, Shahjalal Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Moshiur Rahman, President of Bangladesh University Council and Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman participated in the meeting.
The meeting suggested a framework for a single admission test, a policy at the national level and giving a score through the test. Commission member Professor Dr. welcomed the meeting. Muhammad Alamgir and Professor Dr. presented concept paper on single admission test. Dil Afroza Begum.
Incidentally, last Thursday (March 30), UGC Secretary Dr. In a letter signed by Ferdous Zaman, it is said that a discussion meeting was held on March 27 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education regarding the management policy of the public universities and the improvement of the quality of education. In the meeting, it was decided to conduct admission test under a single umbrella from next year. It has been said that NTA should be formed in phases. UGC should take initiative in this regard.
