Why is the position of treasurer important?
According to sub-section 1 of section 14 of the Shahjalal University Act 1987, a treasurer is appointed by the Chancellor for a term of four years.

Sub-section No. 3 of the same section states that the Treasurer shall have general supervision over the funds of the University and give financial advice.

According to sub-section 4, the Treasurer shall manage the properties and investments of the University subject to the control of the Syndicate.

As per sub-section 6, he shall sign all contracts on behalf of the University and as per sub-section 7, the Treasurer may also exercise such other powers as may be prescribed by the Statutes and University Ordinances.

In addition to these, the treasurer often performs the duties of acting vice-chancellor in the absence of the vice-chancellor of the university. That is why it is very interesting for the university teachers to occupy this position.

What is the vice chancellor saying?
It is known from several sources of the campus, subject to the provisions of the university law in 2019, the chancellor and president of the university. According to the order of Abdul Hamid, the professor of mathematics department was appointed as the 6th treasurer of Anwarul Islam.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said that his four-year tenure as treasurer will be completed next Tuesday.

He has held several important positions in university administrative units including former Director of Student Counseling and Guidance, former President of Teachers Association, Provost of Hall, Government nominated Syndicate Member in Jagannath University and Sylhet International University.

Meanwhile, Professor Amina Parveen, who is in discussion for the post of treasurer, has also served in various positions in the university's administrative unit. She is the first woman to serve as the university's Director of Student Counseling and Guidance. He recently got the responsibility as the head of social work department. At the same time, he was elected as an effective member of SUST Teachers Association this year.

Prior to this, he held various administrative and organizational positions including Syndicate Member, Provost of Student Hall and Vice President of Teachers Association.

On the other hand, CEE department professor Mushtaq Ahmed was a former syndicate member of the university. Besides, he was the former Dean of Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Head of CEE Department and former President of SUSTr Admission Committee. Moreover, it is known that he has held various posts in the administrative unit.
