The Kerala Story actress says she is disappointed with Kolkata

Soon after the apex court verdict of The Kerala Story on Thursday, Sudipto Sen, director, reached Kolkata on Friday. Adah Sharma, the protagonist in the film, accompanied him. The Supreme Court put a stay order on the ban of the film on May 18. The director and the actress came to Kolkata on May 19. But they said they are disappointed.

This is Adah Sharma’s first time in Kolkata. She said she came to the city with lots of hope. Her plan was to go to the places where the film was shown and talk to the audience. But The Kerala Story is not yet being shown in any hall in West Bengal, and hence the actress said she felt let down.

The director Sudipto Sen said, “Everyone has their political opinions, which is natural. But we have to put it aside while working.”

Sudipto was in Mumbai when the Supreme Court put the stay order on Thursday. He got delighted to hear the news. He hurriedly came to Kolkata with Adah. And then they faced disappointment, which they did not hide.

Sudipto said, “I am a Bengali person. The music composer of the film is Bengali. We thought of coming to Kolkata and talking to the audience. But we feel frustrated. The film is not shown in any hall. We are sad, and surprised at this incident.” He further added, “I hope our producer and lawyer will take steps against this. But the joy with which we came to Kolkata is mostly killed.”

Sudipto said he had to go through lots of trouble to make this film. He has been working on it for the last eight years. Many producers did not dare to work on this film, and Vipul Shah agreed at last. He said, “When we made this film, we did not understand we would get so much love from the audience. We only wanted the people to watch it. We would make a commercial film if we wanted to do business. Now, since people are watching the film, they should not be stopped.”
