Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Bulbul Mahalanobish passed away on Friday.

Eminent musician Leenu Billah confirmed her death. The noted singer was suffering from various complications for a long time, Leenu Billah said.

Bulbul Mahalanobish was better known as a versatile singer and writer.

During Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, Bulbul Mahalanobish was a prominent singer of Shwadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, where she also played the leading female character in “Jallader Darbar”, an extremely popular episodic radio play written by Kalyan Mitra.

As a member of the “Shwadhin-Bangla Betar Kendra Music Squad”, she has performed in numerous locations, where the collected proceeds were presented to the Bangladesh Government.

Bulbul started learning music from her childhood from eminent persons namely, Shudhin Das, Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, Altaf Mahmud, Nitai Roy, Anjoli Roy, Shukhendu Chakravorty, and later on, Pandit Bareen Majumder. Ever since she was a high school student, Bulbul Mahalanobish had been involved with the progressive, cultural movement of the country.

She received numerous awards and distinctions in music, recitation and literature. She received the “Ambassador’s Award” for playing an integral role in the cultural practice of Bangladeshis in the United Arab Emirates.

She was the Finance Secretary of Bangladesh National Poetry Council; General Secretary of Rabindra Academy; Vice President of Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Porishad; Member of Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangshad and Publication Secretary of Bangladesh-India Friendship Society.

She wrote nine books which include collections of rhymes, poems, travel stories, Liberation War memoirs, Literary Compositions etc.
