6 popular Bollywood stars who have roots in Pakistan

Bollywood is an industry second to none. Numerous Pakistani actors aspire to work in the Indian film industry, and indeed, we’ve witnessed remarkable performances by talents such as Fawad Khan and Mahira, among others.

However, it’s not only Pakistanis seeking opportunities in Bollywood. Surprisingly, some Indian actors have Pakistani origins. Here’s a list of six Bollywood actors with deep-rooted connections to Pakistan.

Amitabh Bachchan
It might come as a surprise, but Bollywood’s ‘Shahenshah,’ Amitabh Bachchan, has Pakistani roots. His mother, Teji Bachchan, was born in Faisalabad, Punjab, in 1914, and she gave birth to Amitabh in Allahabad.

Hrithik Roshan
Ever wondered about the source of Hrithik Roshan’s incredible looks? Well, it turns out that the star of “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” has ancestral ties to Pakistan. His paternal grandfather, a renowned music director, hailed from Gujranwala, Punjab, while his maternal grandfather, J Om Prakash, was born in Sialkot, Punjab.

Sanjay Dutt
Both of Sanjay Dutt’s parents originate from Pakistan. His father, Sunit Dutt, was born in Jhelum, Punjab, and his mother, the legendary Nargis Dutt (born Fatima Rashid), was a Pakistani-born actress with roots in Rawalpindi, Punjab.

Shah Rukh Khan
Even the King Khan himself has Pakistani heritage. Bollywood’s ‘Baadshah’ was born in New Delhi, but his father, Meer Taj Muhammad Khan, hailed from Peshawar.

The Kapoors
The entire Kapoor family, including Ranbir, Kareena, and Rishi, has Pakistani heritage. Pritviraj Kapoor, the first Kapoor to enter the film industry, was born in Lyallpur, Punjab 1906. He later moved to Peshawar for his higher education, where his son Raj Kapoor, the father of Rishi Kapoor, was born.

Dilip Kumar
The legendary superstar, Dilip Kumar, originally Muhammad Yousuf Khan, not only shares the same religion but also roots with Pakistan. The “Mughal-e-Azam” legend was born in Peshawar in December 1922. His screen name, Dilip Kumar, was given to him by the author Bhagwati Charan Verma.
