Colorful Bangla New Year`s in Berlin
Bengalis only wait for the Bengali New Year festival. It is everywhere at home and abroad. There is still a bit of winter in Europe. It is not as hot as in Bengal, but I remember the warmth of Baisakh. A big auditorium on Berlin's urban street is like the weather of Bangladesh. On April 29, hundreds of Bengalis appeared in the New Year festival.
Organized by the Bengali Cultural Forum in Berlin, the expatriate Bengalis from different cities living in Germany including Berlin appeared in this colorful New Year festival. Organizers have made month-long preparations to make the New Year festival colorful and rhythmic. A huge hand-painted banner 'Happy New Year' was drawn on the stage. This arrangement of migration seems to say that New Year will open the door of new life.
At the beginning of the program, the artistes took to the stage to sing Kabiguru's famous song 'Ai apa sahchari, Hate Hate Dhari Dhari, Nachibi Ghirighiri, Gahibi Song'. Then sometimes solo, sometimes duet song, dance, Bengali hip-hop, punthipath, fashion show of desi clothes - nothing is left out.
All are artists living in the German diaspora. Some German children who are fond of Bengali culture added a different dimension to the event by participating in dance songs. Children artists also participated in the event. These children were born abroad. However, they performed several dances and songs that enthralled the new generation with the pull of patriotism and Bengali culture.
The audience packed the large auditorium on Berlin's Urban Street to appreciate the arrangement as they watched the nearly three-hour mesmerizing New Year's Eve show. The organizers of the Bengali Cultural Forum in Berlin said that they have been preparing for a long time to organize the New Year program with local artists. Along with this event, there were various local food shops outside.
In the post-corona era, Bengalis in Berlin, expatriate Bengalis from faraway places, including Berlin, celebrated this joyous new year festival even for one day.
