Kuwait will take new expatriate workers

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the first deputy prime minister and interior minister of the Middle Eastern country of Kuwait, has ordered the authorities to make arrangements to recruit new expatriate workers. According to a report of Kuwait Times, this new initiative is being taken to solve the labor shortage in the country's labor market.

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled has ordered the hiring of workers from other sources than the countries that have the majority of workers in Kuwait to meet the labor shortage in certain sectors and to diversify the labor source.

According to Kuwait's Public Manpower Authority (PAM), there are also instructions to coordinate with the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sign memorandums of understanding with new labor exporting countries.

Kuwait Times says the move is an effort to tackle Kuwait's "demographic imbalance problem". Through this, the country's labor market needs will be met.

A delegation from the Philippines is expected to arrive later this month to discuss sending specific workers to the Gulf region for certain sectors. PAM will coordinate with concerned authorities to take necessary action in this regard. Because after negotiations, the possibility of bringing workers from the Philippines to the country will resume.

According to Kuwait Times, the Philippine delegation will request eight hours of work per day and one day off per week for domestic workers. Besides, if the working period is exceeded, the overtime pay will be requested.

Meanwhile, the country's central government tendering agency has approved three tenders for medical support services to all provinces. Kuwait's Ministry of Health requested this tender of 5 crore 71 lakh Kuwaiti dinars.

Out of this, the first tender worth 1.4 million dinars has been awarded for the recruitment of nurses in Hawali Health Region of the country. In addition, the second tender has been approved for Sabah Health Region, Capital Kuwait City and Zahra Province. This tender of 2.3 million dinars was awarded to the lowest bidder.

The third tender includes Kuwait's Farwaniya, Mubarak Al-Kabir and Ahmadi provinces. Tenders worth 2.28 million dinars have been approved for recruitment of workers in these three regions. The third lowest bidder won the tender.

The ministry is in the process of hiring new batches of Bangladeshi, Indian and Filipino nurses, Kuwait Times said, citing sources in the country. These nurses will be employed in the health centers established in the new areas. Besides, they may be appointed in other hospitals and healthcare centers of the country to meet the manpower crisis.
