Romania sent back 79 Bangladeshis in 4 months

Romania forcibly sent back 79 Bangladeshis in the first four months of 2023. Infomigrants said in a report that the Romanian Immigration Office gave this information.

According to that report, from January 1 to April 30 this year, the gendarmerie branch of the Romanian police, immigration department and border police officers conducted the operation.

A total of 296 foreign nationals including 79 Bangladeshis have been sent to their country during this time. Of these, 273 were repatriated by air from Romanian airports and 23 migrants were sent back to their home countries under the supervision of Frontex or the Romanian police.

Most of the repatriates were detained by the police after illegally crossing the Romanian border and trying to enter the Schengen zone. In addition, many were detained in raids against those residing and working in the country in an irregular manner. A section of them were given voluntary notice to leave the country within 15 days. Those concerned were forcibly sent back to their home countries for not complying with this legal notice.

Bangladesh has the highest number of repatriates at 79. Besides, there are 37 people from Pakistan.

Migrants for whom no passports or documents were found at the time of detention are repatriated with the assistance of the diplomatic mission or consular office of the receiving state with a special permit. Many irregular migrants throw away all their documents when they enter the Schengen border.

Among the 64 Bangladeshi immigrants expelled from various European countries in March this year, many of them were sent back with clearance from Bangladesh embassies in the countries.
