Online from Bangladesh Embassy Rome - Ambassador Shamim Ahsan, Jasim Uddin, Councilor (Political), Asif Anam Siddiqui, First Secretary (Labour), Ayesha Akhtar, First Secretary (Political) and Ashfaqur Rahman, First Secretary (Political) were present.
Through the opening ceremony, the activities of Bangladesh Open University (BAUBI) outside Bangladesh (NISH-2) SSC, HSC and BA/BSS programs are going to start soon in Italy. Bangladeshis living in Italy or Italian expatriates of Bangladeshi origin can participate in these programs under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome. The programs will be conducted through distance learning using the online platform of Bangladesh Open University.
These programs will have admission opportunities in humanities and business education streams. Online tutorial classes and exams will be arranged on weekends in Italy. Students will need phone, laptop and computer with internet connection to participate in these programs.
At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Shamim Ahsan said, the embassy has taken this initiative because the Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy have already received promising responses about the program in an online survey conducted by the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome. After Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and South Korea from Bangladesh Open University, this program is going to be conducted in Italy for the first time among European countries due to the interest of Bangladesh Embassy in Rome.
For this, the Ambassador of Bangladesh expressed sincere thanks to the University authorities including the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University.
The ambassador considered the program as a service for expatriates and opined that it is also in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'expatriate-friendly' policy and Digital Bangladesh Vision. He expressed the opinion that this service-like initiative will also play a role in changing the common people's perception about the embassy.
The ambassador expressed hope that many working in Italy are being deprived of the opportunity to study due to the pressure of livelihood or lack of time. But this program of Bangladesh Open University will help them to make themselves competent and institutionally highly qualified in the gap between work and leisure on foreign soil.
He assured that the embassy will fully cooperate with Bangladesh Open University authorities to manage the program properly.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Humayun Akhtar thanked the Ambassador for starting the Open University Education Program in Italy. He said that this program of the open university will help increase the confidence of expatriate Bangladeshis in addition to mental health care. He expressed hope that the expansion of educational programs is necessary to survive in the competition in the international market and this program of Bangladesh Open University will play a role in the development plan of the Prime Minister "Smart Bangladesh".
Registrar Shafiqul Alam said, it is a special day of joy for Italian expatriates. He appreciated the goodwill of the embassy to expand such service activities.
