E-Passport launched at Bangladesh Embassy in Spain
The e-passport program for Bangladeshi expatriates in Spain was inaugurated on Saturday (July 8) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Madrid. Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury, Secretary of the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was the chief guest in the event organized at the Embassy under the chairmanship of the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Spain, Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud, and the Director General (Administration) of the Prime Minister's Office, Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui, was the special guest.
Senior officials of the Department of Immigration and Passports were present on the occasion. The program was conducted by Counselor (Labor) Mutasimul Islam of the embassy
According to the press release of the Embassy of Spain, Bangladeshis living in Spain are the third largest expatriate Bangladeshi community in the European Union in terms of numbers. By introducing e-passport system in Bangladesh Embassy in Madrid, a long-standing expectation of them was fulfilled. From now on, Bangladeshi citizens living in Spain will be covered by all services and facilities related to e-passport.
Along with the e-passport system at the embassy, MRP operations will also continue as usual.
State-of-the-art secure travel document e-passport is a biometric passport containing an 'electronic microprocessor chip'. It stores biometric and other important information such as passport holder's color photo, 10 finger prints, eye iris, permanent or current address, previous passport record etc. in a microprocessor chip with more than 38 security features. Integration and migration of MRP system with e-passport system has been completed. As a result, all the previous passport information will be saved in it. The e-passport system has facility to fill application form on online platform with National Identity Card or Birth Registration Number and pay passport fee online. Latest status of application processing along with verification of information submitted along with application is known instantly. Any citizen irrespective of upper age limit can get e-passport with 10 years validity.
The e-passport system has been established with the national identity card and birth certificate database, 72 SB/DSB offices, e-Hajj management and various public and private service providers. Apart from that, separate data centers and disaster recovery sites have been established for data security.
