Bangladesh Garment Industry Conference held in Melbourne

Australian Government Chief Whip Joan Ryan has assured support in terms of supportive policies for the people and economy of Bangladesh and Australia. He gave this assurance at the day-long conference on the garment industry of Bangladesh held in the country's Melbourne city.

The conference was organized under the initiative of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and in collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission in Australia. HSBC Bank was the associate partner in this conference held on Tuesday (July 18).

The conference was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the state of Victoria, Matt Fregon, and the shadow minister for trade and investment, David Southwick, from the state's opposition party.

The conference was also attended by around 130 people from various organizations including buyers, sellers, suppliers, development partners and policy makers of the Australian Government. At the beginning of the conference, speakers presented their views in a plenary session and two panel discussions. The panel discussions were titled 'Australia Bangladesh Trade: Roadmap for the Next Decade' and 'Sustainable Materials: ESG Collaboration in Creating Future Fashion' respectively.

BGMEA president Farooq Hasan presented the keynote speech in the conference. He highlighted the immense potential of the Bangladeshi garment industry and various important aspects including supply chain transparency, responsible sourcing and ethical production methods. Emphasis on social environment and responsible business ideals and values and mutual cooperation in developing fashion industry.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia M Allama Siddiqui highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Australia and Bangladesh and emphasized on the development of bilateral investment and trade relations between the two countries.

The conference provides an opportunity for productive discussions on apparel industry issues as well as information sharing and exchange of views. It is hoped that mutual communication and cooperation will increase between Bangladeshi garment exporters and Australian buyers. The conference shed light on the contribution of the Australian market in the export of Bangladesh's manufactured garments during the corona period and post-corona period. Apart from this, the trade policy for the economic interests of both countries, especially Bangladesh, is emphasized on the transition period from a less developed country to a developing country.

Kmart Group Managing Director Ian Bailey praised Bangladesh's social and environmental development. He emphasized on the efficiency and productivity of the supply chain of the garment industry through data management of related industries. He expressed his views on the development of second and third level factories in Bangladesh into first level.

HSBC, Australia CEO Anthony Shaw praised Bangladesh's infrastructure development in industrial and other sectors. He mentioned that HSBC is proud to be Bangladesh's development partner and this partnership will continue in the future.

During this time, an exhibition was held on the heritage and nature of Bangladesh. The latest collection of Bangladeshi export products is showcased to showcase Bangladesh's manufacturing capabilities.
