Scarborough Folk Festival in Toronto July 29-30

The 'Scarborough Folk Festival' is going to be held to create a bridge between the different cultures of the multicultural country of Canada and convey the roots of folk culture to the new generation.

This exceptional and colorful festival will be held from 3 pm to 10 pm from 29 to 30 July at Thomson Memorial Park in Scarborough, Toronto.

Initiated by non-governmental organization 'Heritage Canada' and supported by Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, Factor Canada, Scarborough Arts, DigiTune Events, the event's beneficiary charity is the Scarborough Health Network's Love Scarborough Campaign. Organizers say the festival aims to promote intercultural and interfaith understanding by combating racism and discrimination, and creating equitable opportunities for full participation by all in Canadian society.

Founder and Artistic Director of Scarborough Folk Festival, Ujjal Das said, this two-day event will highlight the cultural traditions of Canada's aboriginal culture and immigrant communities. However, Bangladeshi culture will be represented in a significant part. He said that more than three hundred artists from different communities are participating in this event.

Ujjal Das also said that every region, every country, every people has its own story, Scarborough Folk Festival is the platform to spread that story to everyone.

Jyoti Purkayastha, Secretary General of the organizing organization 'Parampara Canada' said, 'Parampara Canada' is working with the aim of creating a harmony of different cultures in a multicultural society through the practice of art culture. The organization of the Scoreborough Folk Ve Festival is part of that. He said that the two-day festival is being held this time in continuation of the previous success.

Artist Management Coordinator Koumita Satkonaranjan said that the program will begin with the performance of about one hundred dancers from different communities. Under the direction of renowned dancer and teacher Aruna Haider, the founder of Sukanya Nrityangan, this collective dance will be performed on Saturday, July 29 at 3:30 pm. Apart from this, the paintings of 15 Bangladeshi-Canadian artists will be exhibited in this festival as a joint initiative of Sampara Canada and Art Quest.

Calling on the Bangladeshi community to enjoy this exceptional event, General Secretary of Heritage Canada Jyoti Dutta said, they believe that the Scarborough Folk Festival will add a different dimension to Canada's mainstream culture with everyone's cooperation.
