National Day of Mourning celebrated in Japan

August 15 is National Day of Mourning. The 48th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time, the undisputed leader of the Bengali freedom struggle, the architect of independent Bangladesh, the father of the nation.

Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the day with due dignity and solemnity.

According to a press release of the embassy, a large number of expatriates living in Japan, including Bangladeshis, all the officers and employees of the embassy attended the day program.

In the morning, the day of mourning started with the national flag being flown at half-mast in the embassy premises. Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmad lowered the national flag to half-mast along with the performance of the national anthem. At this time, a minute's silence was observed to pay respect to the memory of Bangabandhu and all the martyrs of his family.

At the beginning of the program organized on the occasion of National Mourning Day 2023 at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy, Ambassador Shahabuddin Ahmed paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Later, the visiting guests, Bangladeshi living in Japan, leaders of Japan Awami League and its various affiliate organizations paid floral tributes to Bangabandhu's portrait.

Special prayers and prayers were offered for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family and all the martyrs of 1975. Besides, speeches given by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read on the occasion.

Ambassador Shahabuddin Ahmad in his speech showed deep respect for the greatest Bengali Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and said that he was the visionary of the liberation of the Bengali nation and the embodiment of independence. Under the visionary, fearless and strong leadership of this undisputed great man, the entire Bengali nation was united in the great freedom struggle and liberation war. Under his leadership, we got the status of independent country and independent Bengali nation in the court of the world.
