Sergeant Ershadur received `community service award` in New York

New York Police Sergeant Ershadur Siddiqui received the Community Service Award. Last Saturday (August 12) he was given this honor for his significant contribution in serving the Bangladeshi community at the annual awards and dinner organized by the Bangladesh Correction Society (BCS). Kazi Hasan, the current president of the organization, presented the award to him on behalf of BCS.

Eric Adams, the current mayor of New York City, was present as the chief guest at the ceremony, and Luis A. Molina, commissioner of the New York Department of Corrections, was present as a special guest.

Member of the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh American Police Association (BAPAR) NYPD. Detective Masud Rahman said that Sergeant Ershad Siddique is the son of Saidur Rahman Talukdar and Rehena Begum of Mahra area of Kalurghat near Chittagong city. This child of Chittagong has been serving the Bangladeshi community in various ways as New York's Finest for 20 years. He joined the NYPD as a police officer in 2003 and began his career in Manhattan's 19th Precinct.

Promoted to sergeant in 2016, he was assigned to the Community Affairs Bureau in 2017. He has been responsible for presenting and conducting various workshops on elder abuse, crime prevention and rights of Bangladeshi immigrants in providing Bangladeshi community services. He currently serves in the Executive Protection Unit of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

He is the co-founder of the Bangladesh American Police Association (BAPA) and the current Executive Vice President of BPA.

Sergeant Ershad Siddique said in his speech at the award ceremony, "I am really proud to receive this rare honor for making a significant contribution to serving the Bangladeshi community." Serving the community is not only a responsibility but also a unique opportunity that has enabled me to be an influencer for compassion, unity and positive change in lives. I would like to thank Mayor Eric Adams for his unwavering support of the Bangladeshi community. He is an old friend of the Bangladeshi community.

Sergeant Siddiqui mentioned in his speech that New York City Corrections Commissioner Molina has created a unique precedent in the Department of Corrections by assigning responsibility to Bangladeshi correction officers in the recruitment department to recruit more Bangladeshis in the Department of Corrections.

At the end of the speech, he thanked the president and other executive members of Bangladesh Correction Society for their hard work in organizing such a program.
