Celebrating Independence Day in South Sudan
The peacekeeping forces of Bangladesh have been playing an important role in maintaining peace in the conflict areas of the world. The role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in providing road repair, medical and humanitarian assistance in those areas is commendable. Bangladesh's leading role in UN peacekeeping missions is enhancing the country's reputation in the outside world. It is also contributing to enhance the efficiency of army personnel in performing their duties in hostile environment.
In addition to providing security, Bangladeshi peacekeepers are constantly providing humanitarian services in South Sudan. On the one hand, they are actively participating in armed security patrols, on the other hand, free medical services, treatment of cattle, free books and stationery, supply of various types of vegetables and seeds to local farmers with agricultural materials, supply of clothes and clothes to deprived people, distribution of sports materials to youth and children. Through this, the peacekeepers of Bangladesh have emerged as the best friends of the local people. Apart from ensuring overall security, the people of South Sudan are full of praise for the Bangladeshi peacekeepers for providing these humanitarian services.
In order to celebrate Bangladesh's Independence Day-2023, Banbat-6 contingent deployed in Bahar Al Ghazal province of South Sudan handed over free medical supplies and medicines to various hospitals in Wau city. A bond of mutual trust has been observed in the cordial atmosphere between the Bangladeshi peacekeepers and the common people.
The event was attended by Minister of Health of Bahar Al Ghazal Province, DG Ministry of Health, Contingent Commander of Banbat-6 Colonel Mohammad Shafkat-ul-Islam, Public Relations Officer Lieut. Colonel Md. Ruhul Amin, Intelligence Officer Lt. Colonel Md. Directors of various local hospitals including Maqsudul Alam.
Colonel Mohammad Shafkat-ul-Islam, the contingent commander of Banbat-6, said that free medical services are being provided by the Bangladeshi contingent in various areas of Wao city and surrounding areas every month. Here the local population is deprived of proper medical care due to shortage of medicines and medical supplies. On the occasion of Bangladesh Independence Day, Bangladeshi peacekeepers stationed in South Sudan gave medical supplies to various local hospitals today.
Contingent Public Relations Officer Lieut. Colonel Ruhul Amin said, beyond the mandate given by the United Nations or assigned responsibility, we are providing various services to the common helpless people here under SIMIC program. One of which is the distribution of free medical services and medicines to the underprivileged.
Ruhul Amin also said that Bangladesh is at the top position in the UN peacekeeping mission. Various social and humanitarian activities are being conducted under the Civil Military Cooperation (CMIC) program to maintain the honor and dignity of the country.
