DU Alumni`s Boishakhi Festival in London
Dhaka University Club UK, an organization of Dhaka University alumni living in the UK, organized the Eid reunion and Baisakhi festival on Sunday.
A colorful procession was the main attraction of the festival organized at Valentine's Park in East London to welcome the Bengali New Year. Redbridge Council Mayor Councilor Jayaranjan Thavathura and Dhaka University Alumnus Barrister Anis Rahman OBE from the 1960s were present as chief guests at the festival.
To bring out the diverse nature of rural Bengal through the New Year celebrations, the former students of fine arts made Hutum Pachcha, Royal Bengal Tiger, Tia bird masks and placards. Former students of Dhaka University rushed from different cities of England to participate in the Baisakhi procession.
Dhaka University Club member of the Board of Directors, Journalist Tanveer Ahmed, another member of the Board of Directors, Third Sector Consultant Bidhan Goswami, Barrister Hafizur Rahman, Barrister Kazi Ashiqur Rahman, Pradeep Mazumder, Roshan Jahan Poly, Fatema Begum Lily, Fateha Poly, Shahina Zebin gave greetings in the New Year discussion. , Taslima Meera, Shaukat Ali Benu, Advocate Shah Alam Sarkar, Harunur Rashid, Redwan Jannat Ishita, Rathindra Goswami and others.
Among the new members spoke - Dr. Sussex University lecturer. Kanamik Koni Khan and Sirajum Munira Sifat.
The chief guest of the event, Councilor Jaya Ranjan, Mayor of Redbridge Council, said that the Bengali New Year celebration organized by Dhaka University alumni represents Britain's mixed cultural identity. He wished for the continuation of this initiative.
Artist Masud Mizan, a former student of the Faculty of Fine Arts, member of the Board of Directors of Dhaka University Club UK, said, I feel proud to be involved with such an initiative again in London after 30 years, as I designed the mask for the Mars procession as a first-year student of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The present alumni hope to organize such a Baisakhi festival in London every year at the initiative of Dhaka University Club UK.
Music artists Sarwari Alam and Azizur Rahman, members of the club's management council, performed music at the Baisakhi festival. Dancer Mohammed Dwip also spread joy among the alumni who participated in the Baishakhi event.
