World Free Press Day celebrated in Qatar
Bangladesh Press Club Qatar held a discussion meeting on the occasion of World Free Media Day to ensure the freedom of media expression.
The discussion meeting was held on Wednesday (May 3) night local time in Qatar's capital, Doha Najma, former Sundarban restaurant under the chairmanship of Yusuf Patwari Lincoln, the convener of the organization and the member secretary Akbar Hossain Bachchu.
Qatar expatriate senior journalists Anwar Hossain Mamun, MA Salam, Kazi Mohammad Shamim, Ahsan Ullah Sajib, Saddam Hossain, Mohiuddin Chowdhury and others spoke at the meeting.
In the discussion meeting, the expatriate journalists strongly protested and condemned the offensive and ugly comments made by Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salauddin and Football Federation Vice President Kazi Nabil Ahmed about the journalists. They demanded that Kazi Salahuddin be expelled from all the organizations of which journalists are members.
World Free Press Day is celebrated on May 3 every year. This year the theme of the day is 'Freedom of expression is the driving force of all human rights'.
Mention, on the recommendation of UNESCO, the United Nations has been celebrating Free Press Day for 30 years. One of the objectives of celebrating this day is to ensure freedom of media.
