5 Sylheti elected councilors in UK
5 councilors of Sylheti have been elected so far in the four city council elections in the UK.
Among them, Abdul Jabbar of Tengra village in Alankari union of Biswanath upazila and Abdul Malik of Karpara village in Daulatpur union were re-elected to Oldham City Council, Iftekhar Alam Mukul of Charchandi village in Daulatpur union was re-elected to New Costesse council in Norwich, Nowli Park ward was re-elected in Keighley Town Council. Abdul Shahid of Dasghar Noagaon village of Dasghar Union and Shireen Akhter of North Dharmada village of Vishwanath Union were elected councilors for the first time as the first Bengali women in Chester City Council.
Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Malik, Iftekhar Alam Mukul and Shireen Akhtar were all candidates of the current main opposition Labor Party in the United Kingdom, while Abdul Shaheed was an independent.
