March 17 celebration at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi

The 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day are being celebrated with due dignity and joyful atmosphere at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mostafizur Rahman started the day-long program by hoisting the national flag and paying floral tributes to the portrait of the Father of the Nation at the High Commission premises on Friday morning.

As part of the programme, a discussion program was organized at the High Commission. At the beginning, the speeches given by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read out on the occasion of the day.

In his speech, the High Commissioner respectfully recalled Bangabandhu's prudent leadership in the various bloody struggles that took place on the way to the establishment of independent-sovereign Bangladesh. He said that Bangabandhu became the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation due to his deep political wisdom, visionary leadership, extraordinary self-sacrifice and extraordinary compassion for the people.

He urged to inculcate the character and human qualities of Bangabandhu in the children to build a beautiful future generation. At the same time, he asked everyone to continue their efforts in building 'Smart Bangladesh' under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, taking Bangabandhu's ideals to heart.

Among others, Member of Parliament Arma Dutta, eminent journalist and columnist Abed Khan and lawyer barrister Tanya Amir spoke highlighting the significance and importance of the day. A documentary on Bangabandhu was screened on the occasion.

At the end of the discussion, a special prayer was offered for the souls of Bangabandhu and all the martyrs who played a historical role in all stages of Bengali freedom and independence movement. Bangladesh High Commission officials and expatriate Bangladeshis were present at this time.

In the evening, a cultural program was organized in Bangabandhu Hall of the High Commission with the participation of children and teenagers. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday, the program will begin with the cutting of a special cake in the presence of children and teenagers. The Father of the Nation will be remembered through Bangabandhu's historical speech of March 7 and poems, essays and songs written about Bangabandhu. Finally, a documentary on the life and work of Bangabandhu will be shown.

On the occasion of the day, writing, painting and sports competitions were also organized by the High Commission for children and teenagers. The High Commissioner distributed the prizes to the winners of these competitions in the evening.
