SUST Alumni Reunion held in New York

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in New York organized the Eid reunion and general meeting under the initiative of 'SAST Alumni Association of USA Inc'. The program was organized by the former students of the university on May 14.

About half a hundred former students of Bangladeshi origin working in various professions in New York and New Jersey State participated in the event organized at the Jalalabad Building located in Astoria, Queens, New York. From noon, participants from different parts of New York began to gather in front of the Jalalabad building. The entire program became lively with the conversation of classmates, senior-junior and guest teachers along with reminiscences of different times of the campus.

An afternoon snack was served at the beginning of the event. Then the main episode begins. In this phase, there was an introduction phase, general meeting. Based on the opinions of the alumni present in the general meeting, a selection board consisting of 14 members was formed to form a full-fledged committee. Within the next 45 days, the selection board will work to form a 21-member executive and 7-member advisory committee.

Prof. AHM Belayet Hossain of the Department of Sociology of the University was present as a special guest on the occasion. In his speech, he said, "Since the establishment of the university, the academic syllabus has been prepared in accordance with the education system of the developed world and the books of world-class authors have been included in the syllabus as textbooks." Apart from this, as the academic activities are conducted by the skilled and talented teachers, the students are able to fully utilize the education acquired from the university in their professional life. The reflection of which students are building their desired careers in the developed world beyond the borders of the country.

Apart from this, Faridul Alam, a first batch student of the university and economics department, gave another speech. He said, the future of Sastians in the United States is bright, and I want to see Sast Alumni Association of USA as a role model. Because, Saast covers our love, emotions and feelings.

Meanwhile, Sajedur Rahman, who is currently working in NYPD's Criminal Justice Bureau and a former student of the second batch of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science, said, 'Besides getting higher education opportunities in first-class universities in developed countries such as America, England, Canada and Australia, in addition to the opportunities in the world like New York Police Department, IBM, Google, Amazon. Shabi Prabi students are far ahead of others in getting jobs in reputed public and private institutions.

Masud Alam, a student of the same batch, said, "I am very happy to come to the meeting of Sastians. I hope that such gatherings will continue in the future.

Apart from this, the special guests were called upon to come forward with various financial grants including providing scholarships to meritorious and poor students studying in Shabi Prabi to the former students of the university staying in America. They became emotional during the campus reminiscence in their speech.

Dinner is organized at the end of the event. The overall supervision of the program was Belayet Chowdhury, Md. Fakhrul Islam, Syed Jabedur Munir, Ahmedur Rahman Rani, Asim Kumar Sarkar, Alamgir Hossain, Mahbub Ahmed Masum, Azhar Ahmed, Md. Mainul Hossain Babu, Kazi Limon, Miskat Jahan, Farhana Islam, Dipankar Das Deepan, Shakir Hossain, Tasfiq Rahman, Moushumi Kapali, Md. Jabedul Haque, Md. Shafiqul Islam, Saidur Rahman, Rajesh Maha, Obaidur Rahman, Riyadul Islam, Shoaib Chowdhury, Ataul Gani Asad, Md. Sadikur Rahman Sufian, Tipu, Ahmed Fahad and Pradipta Roy etc.

Belayet Chowdhury, a student of the fourth batch of chemistry department, said that in the future, everyone including the seniors and juniors, batchmates of the university should work together to take the Sastian bond much further.

Belayet Chowdhury was in charge of conducting the program under the chairmanship of Faridul Alam, a student of the first batch of the university. At the end of the meeting, Convenor Faridul Alam thanked everyone for making the event a success and also urged the Sastians to work unitedly in organizing such a reunion event on a larger scale in the near future.
