Seasonal Work Visa in the UK and our opportunity
The UK government have announced on 13 June 2022 in the Government Food Strategy policy that they will allow 38,000 temporary migrants to work in the UK in horticulture sectors and 2000 visas for working in UK poultry sector. This visa route will continue from 2022 to 2024 and people living outside the UK can apply to work in the UK in horticulture sector for a maximum six months in any 12-month period whereas in poultry sector they are valid to work from 18 October to 31 December each year. The minimum wage for a seasonal worker is £10.42 per hour.
The announcements read that the main purposes of this are to permit migrants to work in the horticulture and poultry sectors and reduce shortages of seasonal workers in these areas during seasonal peaks of demand in the UK.
To apply for this visa scheme, candidates must be 18 or over. In addition to that they must have their valid Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) provided by employers and a minimum £1270 in a bank for 28 consecutive days per person unless this money is shown by their employers. The visa application fee for this scheme is £259 per person.
There are some companies such as AG Recruitment and Management Ltd, Fruitful Jobs, Pro Force Limited and so on, recruiting seasonal workers from outside the UK. Therefore, interested people can visit websites of these companies and apply as seasonal workers in the UK. Basically, workers are recruited to work in fruit or vegetable gardens in horticulture section, while in poultry section workers are given jobs like butcher, plucker, bird dresser etc.
It is worth mentioning that seasonal workers cannot take their dependents to the UK. They are also barred from changing visa route, using public fund in the UK and taking a permanent job there. One positive thing about this visa route is that no IELTS or language test is required for candidates.
