Bangla Book Fair in New York begins
The 32nd Book Fair has started in New York of America with the slogan "Yat Boi Tat Pran". Fiction writer and researcher Shahaduzzaman inaugurated the four-day book fair at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center on Friday (July 14). Captain Sitara Begum was the chief guest. Convener of the book fair and author Abdun Noor gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
On the occasion of the book fair, Shahaduzzaman, chief guest Dr. Sitara Begum, Consul General of Bangladesh Consulate Office in New York Monirul Islam, Nurun Nabi, poet Lutfar Rahman Riton, Subodh Sarkar and 32 guests lit 32 lamps.
Writers from different states of the United States, India, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia are also participating in this year's book fair.
Muktdhara Foundation has been organizing Bengali book fairs in the United States to spread Bengali language, literature and culture all over the world.
Biswajit Saha, founder and general secretary of Muktdhara Foundation, said that writers from different countries of the world have come to New York book fair. It turns into a fair for all Bengali literature lovers around the world. Many books are published in front of the New York Book Fair. Therefore, the number of stalls is also increasing, there is a children's area.
Like every year, this year too, there are various events like discussions about authors, readers, publishers and new books, seminars and cultural performances throughout the book fair. The invited guests will participate in discussion on modern practices of Bengali language, art, literature and culture divided into different phases.
Visitors say that it is not only a book fair, but also a culture fair and a festival. Youth engagement gathering. An appealing festival of cultured Bengalis is called 'New York Book Fair'. Its purpose is to engage the expatriate Bengalis. This time too Muktdhara-GFB literature award will be given at the book fair.
The prize money is 3 thousand US dollars. Last year, researcher and writer Prof. Golam Murshid received this award. The 'Shaheed Qadri Granth Award 2023' will be awarded for books published by migrant new writers in the fair and the Chittaranjan Saha best publishing house award will be given to the best publishing house participating in the fair.
The fair will continue till July 17 from 3 pm to 11 pm on Friday and Monday and from 11 am to 11 pm on Saturday and Sunday. 25 leading publishing houses of Kolkata and Bangladesh are participating in the fair, there are more than 30 book stalls from Bangladesh, India and abroad.
