`Ratna Lane` in Toronto
'Ratna Lane' was named after Bangladeshi Ishmat Ara Ratna, who was killed in Toronto, the commercial capital of Canada.
On August 19, 2019, Ishmat Ara Ratna was rear-ended by a car while leaving her home in the Regent Park area of downtown Toronto while standing at a crossing light.
Various community leaders took steps to name a street in Ratna's memory. It later received 'Ratna Lane' approval through a vote at the initiative of Toronto Housing.
Bappi Rahman, a local resident, said that after various administrative formalities, the road between Dundas and River Street was unveiled at 11:30 am on July 8. It was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon in the presence of family members of the deceased.
