Bangabandhu Poetry Festival in Kolkata
On the occasion of the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a week-long Bangabandhu Poetry Festival was celebrated in Kolkata.
In the week-long Bangabandhu Poetry Festival organized by NRB World Friendship Forum, poetry readings by prominent poets written on Bangabandhu, 103 poems on Bangabandhu by eminent poets were recited. At this time some popular songs written about Bangabandhu were performed. Besides, children's drawing competition, children's recitation competition were held.
Sameer Kumar Mitra, an Indian freedom fighter who participated directly in the Bangladesh Liberation War and former Deputy Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) was the chief guest at the closing ceremony on Monday (March 20) afternoon.
He recalled the gruesome massacre and rape of members of the Pakistani military in Lalmonirhat and Rangpur regions of Bangladesh in 1971. The founding secretary of the organization, Omar Ali, gave a welcome speech. Poet and journalist Abdul Qayyum gave a welcome speech. Poet Chinmoy Roy Chowdhury, presidium member of the organization, welcomed the poets and poets invited to the event.
Poems composed by Rafiq Ul Islam, Dr. Qutubuddin Mollah, Amit Chakraborty, Abesh Das, Nitai Mridha, Mithila Mukherjee, Sujata Bhattacharya, Shiuli Guh Biswas, Anuradha Chakraborty, Ira Sarkar Rahi, Radheshyam Sardar, Debabrata Maji, Biswajit Bala, Aditi Chakraborty, Bijan Chand, Ajay Bhattacharya, Chaitali Nandi, Mita Sinha, Tannishta Das, Anita Bhattacharya, Surela Dey, Paramita Das etc.
Played by Shruti, Mandira Chakraborty, Pranab Chakraborty and Ajay Kumar Bose. Nimai Mondal, a prominent presenter of West Bengal and poet Varun Chakraborty moderated the program. Betar Sahabuddin performed the music. The event was conducted by the office secretary of the organization, poet Sahanara Khatun.
