SUST Alumni Association organized a banquet in New York
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, organized a banquet organized by SAST Alumni Association in New York.
Last Sunday (August 13) the former students of the university organized this event in a joyful and festive atmosphere under the slogan 'This meeting of Sastians, heart beats in long distance'.
About one and a half hundred members of the university, including alumni and their families, working in various professions in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, participated in the banquet held at Bethpage State Park, Long Island, near New York.
The entire program was filled with conversations between classmates, seniors, juniors and guests, along with reminiscences of different times of the campus. The Eagle Pavilion at Bethpage State Park is a piece of paradise.
The banquet starts at eleven in the morning. Participants from different boroughs of New York began to gather in the park from early morning. After the distribution of breakfast, the main phase begins. In this phase there were children's drawing competition, children's race of different age groups, women's marble race, pilopus, men's cock fight and running competition etc. Families and children of former students participated in it. Lunch is served after the sport.
After lunch, the photo session and introduction session of the alumni from the first batch to the 28th batch of the university started in the pleasant surroundings of the park. The traditional football tournament started soon after and the Sastians were divided into two teams in red and green jerseys. The red jersey was the champion in the game.
Mohammad Farid Alam and Kamal Hossain, former students of the first batch of economics department of Biswadiyalaya, gave a congratulatory speech before the prize distribution. In the speech, the speakers said that in the future, the former senior and junior students of the university will work together to strengthen our Sastian bond, which will be a milestone for everyone later. They got emotional during the campus reminiscence in their speech and also thanked the organizing committee.
The whole program was presided over by SAST Alumni President Belayet Chowdhury, a former student of the university and General Secretary Jabedur Munir was the moderator.
Belayet Chowdhury said in the president's speech that our main goal and objective is to make the Sastian network stronger and more dynamic by bringing all the Sastians living in America to a unique platform. So that we can provide all-round support including providing workshops, counseling, references in the formation of the desired career in addition to arranging accommodation and jobs for the new Sastians as soon as possible. Besides, another one of our goals is to provide scholarships for meritorious and poor students studying in Shabi in the near future.
Mahbub Ahmed Masum, Azhar Ahmed, Mainul Hossain Babu, Imam Fahad, Farhana Islam, Miskat Jahan Nisu, Humaira Sultana, Subin Purukayastha were in charge of conducting various events. Tasfiq was in charge of picnic registration.
Aminul Chowdhury (on leave), Tipu, Rajesh Kumar Shah, Titumir Alam, Sangamitra Dev Munni, Obaidur Imon, Gop Das, Moushumi, Jabedul Haque, Shoaib, Humaiara Sultana, Md. were in overall supervision of the entire program. Abu Bakar Siddique, Nazneen Akhtar, Alamgir Hossain, Omar Farooq, Pratibha Rani Das, Fatmo Zohra etc.
