Independence Day celebration at the United Nations WIPO
The Great Independence and National Day was celebrated with various events at the headquarters of the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Participating in the program organized on this occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision of 'Smart Bangladesh-2041' in establishing a knowledge-based and innovative nation is a promising step in realizing the dream of the Bengali nation's Golden Bangla. Sufiur Rahman.
Deputy Ambassador Sanchita Haque conducted the welcome speech at the event organized by the Permanent Mission as part of the Great Independence and National Day celebrations. The ambassador also said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is being recognized as a peaceful, progressive and responsible state in the international arena. Along with this, Bangladesh has been playing an effective role in establishing world peace since its independence, inspired by the motto 'friendship with all, enmity with none'.
In his speech on this day, the ambassador highlighted the glorious history of Bangladesh's independence movement and liberation war, starting from the language movement under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independence. Along with that, he said, after overcoming all obstacles, Bangladesh has now established itself as a liberal, democratic and non-communal peace-loving state.
At this time, the ambassador highlighted the role of Bangladesh in the recent economic success of Bangladesh, success in eradicating poverty, empowering women, ensuring food security, dealing with the effects of climate change, establishing good governance and protecting human rights.
Emphasizing the importance of everyone working together to build a culture of peace as well as making an effective contribution to the post-Covid-19 world economy, the ambassador urged the international community to come forward on the basis of mutual cooperation and solidarity to deal with the war in Ukraine, the impact of climate change, and the food and energy crisis. He also reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to climate change through low-carbon and limited energy-based production and economic activities.
On the occasion of celebrating the 52nd anniversary of Bangladesh's independence on this day, the program was officially started with the hoisting of the national flag by the ambassador on the morning of 26 March 2023 at the mission premises. Later, a discussion meeting was organized in the embassy auditorium after paying respect to the memory of the martyrs by observing a minute of silence.
Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives, Deputy Permanent Representatives, Economic Ministers and community members took part in the meeting and spoke highlighting the significance of the Liberation War commemoration and day. At this time, the permanent representative shed light on the practical aspects of the spirit of freedom by describing the context of the freedom movement. At the same time, he called for the creation of a non-communal and progressive country with emphasis on national unity, harmony and preserving the interests of minorities for the future progress of Bangladesh.
More than three hundred invited guests including ambassadors/permanent representatives and diplomats of about 100 countries, high-ranking officials of the United Nations and various international organizations, dignitaries and members of the Bangladeshi community participated in the event organized at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In addition, Ambassador Nathalie Chuard, director of the Geneva Center for Securities Studies, was present as a special invited guest. Besides, Switzerland Awami League President Jamadar Nazrul Islam, General Secretary Shyamal Khan, Vice President Moshiur Rahman, Morshed Golam, Vipul Talukdar, Joint General Secretary Masum Khan Dulal, Advisor Swapan Kumar Saha, Ashok Kumar Sarkar Ravi, Organizing Secretary Gauricharan Sasim, among others. Publicity and Publication Secretary Ayan Junaid, President of Suez Bangladesh Association Imran Khan Murad and others were present in it.
On this day, the guests arriving at the event were entertained with Bangladeshi traditional food and sweets and were given greeting gifts.
