The contribution of late Rafiqul Islam and Abdus Salam and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the contribution of Aminul Islam, President of Mother Language Lovers of the World Society, for the adoption of the International Mother Language Day by UNESCO and later by the United Nations in 1999 are especially gratefully remembered.
Apart from Bangladesh, Canada is the first country in the world to officially recognize the Great Twenty One as International Mother Language Day. The entire Bengali nation as well as Bangladeshis living in Canada are proud of this.
Aminul Islam, president of Mother Language Lovers of the World Society, said in an interview, "We must recognize the initiative and great contribution of mother language lovers in the world society.
He said, I have worked with Canadian parliamentarians and senators for almost a decade to raise the bill. Grateful to all concerned that the bill passed. We have to spread the history of our great language movement from generation to generation. The practice of the mother tongue in the diaspora should be continued only then the souls of the martyrs of the language movement will find peace.
