Millions of expatriates have returned to the country observe EID
According to the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), about one lakh expatriates have returned to the country to celebrate Eid with their families. BMET is working to facilitate the return of expatriates to the country.
BMET Director General Shahidul Alam went to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday and exchanged greetings with the returning expatriate workers. BMET Additional Director General AHM Anwar Pasha, Wage Earners Welfare Board Director Shoaib Ahmad Khan and other senior officials were present. They handed over iftar items to expatriate workers.
BMET Additional Director General AHM Anwar Pasha told the media that more than 3,000 expatriate workers returned to the country every day during the fasting month. As such, it can be assumed that about one lakh workers have returned. BMET wants these expatriate workers to return home smoothly.
In 2022, a record number of 11 lakh 13 thousand workers were sent abroad in the history of BMET.

BMET is finally working to facilitate the return of expatriate workers to the country. The agency said that letters have been sent to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Authority, Immigration Police, Customs and other related agencies.
The letter, signed by Additional Director General Anwar Pasha, said that while returning to the motherland to celebrate the festival with their loved ones, the employees expect to receive special emotions and care. For this reason, special service is requested from all concerned by facilitating all the services provided from the airport to make the expatriate workers happy to return home safely.
In this regard, instructions have already been given to the officials of the expatriate welfare desk at the airport.
Anwar Pasha said that expatriate workers were facing various problems due to covid, 'due to which many could not return to the country for a long time. I talked to many of them on Wednesday. They said that they are returning home after four or five years. BMET is working to make their journey smooth.'
